The Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) became an independent department on 1st October 2012, following its separation from the former Department of Surgery. The department is dedicated to providing comprehensive, high-quality musculoskeletal and trauma care through three specialized clinical units led by experienced Chief Consultants and Professors. It offers expert services across various orthopaedic subspecialties and operates four specialized clinics: Trauma, Paediatric Orthopaedics, General Orthopaedics, and Orthopaedic Oncology, ensuring holistic care for patients of all ages.
The Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) is committed to delivering excellent, patient-centred care in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders and traumatic injuries. Since becoming an independent department on 1st October 2012, following its separation from the former Department of Surgery, the department has continued to grow as a centre of excellence in clinical service, medical education, and research.
The department comprises three specialized clinical units led by highly experienced Chief Consultants and Professors, each providing expertise across various orthopaedic subspecialties. Our multidisciplinary approach ensures that every patient receives comprehensive, evidence-based care tailored to their specific needs.
We operate four specialized clinicsβTrauma, Paediatric Orthopaedics, General Orthopaedics, and Orthopaedic Oncologyβoffering a broad range of services, from emergency trauma management and fracture care to the treatment of congenital musculoskeletal conditions, degenerative joint diseases, sports injuries, bone and soft tissue tumours, and other complex orthopaedic disorders.
In addition to providing exceptional patient care, the department is actively involved in the training of undergraduate medical students, resident doctors, and other healthcare professionals. Through continuous research, innovation, and collaboration, we remain dedicated to advancing orthopaedic practice and improving the quality of life of the communities we serve.
