The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) Department of the Institute of Tropical Disease, Research, Prevention, and Control is dedicated to advancing the understanding, management, and eradication of tropical diseases in Nigeria and beyond. As a hub for cutting-edge research, the department focuses on the epidemiology, prevention, and treatment of diseases endemic to tropical regions, such as malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). Through collaborative efforts with local and international health organizations, the institute leverages innovative methodologies to develop sustainable interventions and public health policies. It serves as a vital resource for addressing public health challenges, equipping healthcare professionals with the tools and knowledge necessary to combat diseases that disproportionately affect populations in tropical climates.

In addition to its robust research agenda, the department is committed to community engagement and capacity building. It conducts outreach programs to educate communities on disease prevention and control, emphasizing hygiene, vector control, and early diagnosis. The institute also provides specialized training for healthcare workers, ensuring they are well-equipped to manage tropical diseases effectively. With state-of-the-art facilities and a multidisciplinary team of experts, the department remains a cornerstone of UCTH's mission to promote health equity and improve the quality of life for vulnerable populations through scientific innovation and public health advocacy.
